| Alan graduated in Civil Engineering from Canterbury University and later obtained the DIC Diploma from the Imperial College in London and completed his M.Sc (Engineering) degree at London University. He joined the practice in 1987 bringing skills in management, marketing and engineering. Earlier he had held senior appointments with contractors, consulting engineers and property developers in New Zealand and overseas. During six years as an officer in the New Zealand Army he was attached to British Army Operational Research units in England, Germany and Malaya, participating in the design and troop trials of a variety of equipment. Alan's contracting career involved the selling and management of specialist engineering work in UK, India, Pakistan, the Middle East, various parts of Africa, Europe, the West Indies etc., and concluded with responsibility for the development of new business for a major international contractor in South East Asia. This period included numerous contracts in New Zealand. As a Consultant he worked for New Zealand’s largest firm of consulting engineers and was involved in major projects. He gained experience in property development and high rise construction as Managing Director of Robbins Holdings Limited in Auckland and was responsible for the completion of West-Plaza, then the tallest building in Auckland. Alan brings a wealth of industry experience to the search for senior technical and engineering people in New Zealand and overseas.
